Senior People’s Democratic Party leader and Member Parliament Muzaffar Hussain Beigh Monday said that due to ‘lack of interest’ from Pakistan Hurriyat Conference is not ready to hold talks with Government of India. He said Government of India is ready to engage Hurriyat Conference leaders and Pakistan leadership over Kashmir but Pakistan is not ready for any dialogue.

“Government of India is ready for a dialogue over Kashmir, but Pakistan is not ready. When Pakistan is not ready for a dialogue, how can Hurriyat leaders talk to Government of India,” Muzaffar Hussain Beigh told a local news gathering agency.

Beigh however added that Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is ready for a dialogue over Kashmir with India, but he is on the back foot due to pressure from Army, Jamat-ul-Dawah and ISI.

“China-Pakistan Economic Corridor has been set up in Kashmir and Pakistan doesn’t want to jeopardize its relations with China at this moment,” he said.

Holding all mainstream parties of Jammu and Kashmir responsible for current Kashmir mess, Muzaffar Hussain Beigh said that people of Kashmir are tired of mainstream politicians as they have done nothing for them since 1947.

“It’s not only PDP whom people detest, but people also are fed up with National Conference and Congress party. If our party workers didn’t vote for us, the workers of National Conference too stayed away from polling booths. Mainstream politicians from past 70 years did nothing for common people,” he said and added that it is time for Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to review her style of functioning.

“Unlike Jammu, People of Kashmir are unhappy because we did nothing for them. It is our responsibility to take care of them. People were expecting some progress over Kashmir issue from PDP-BJP coalition government, but we failed to live up to their expectations,” Beigh said adding that Peoples Democratic Party should adopt the same style of governance as it had adopted in 2002.

Responding to a question, Muzaffar Hussain Beigh said that since 1947 people of Kashmir have been suffering. “From past 27 years, people are living in a hell. We should focus on the good governance. People of Jammu are happy because they get everything,” he said and added that time was not ripe for by-polls in Kashmir.

“Election Commission of India should not defer the by-polls for South Kashmir seat and if possible government of India should issue an ordinance in this regard. Conducting elections in Valley at this juncture means more blood-shed,” he said and condemned the killing of PDP district president Advocate Abdul Gani Dar in Pulwama.
