Water sports trials conclude at Dal Lake

Two months long water sports trials concluded today here at Water Sports Centre Nehru Park.

The trails were held in disciplines like Dragon boat, Canoe Polo, Canoe Sprint and Canoe Slalom and was organized by Jammu Kashmir State Sports Council (JKSPC).

Around two hundred players had participated in these water sports trails.

“Among them 40 players have been selected for upcoming Water Sports Championship which will be held in Gwalior in first week of May,” said a sports department official.

In conversation with this reporter, Water Sports Coach Bilques Mir said: “The trials session was organised by Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council for water sports players with an aim to find the hidden talent of our players, boost their talent as well as acquaint them about the advance technology of the sports field”.

“40 players have been selected for senior category including 20 girls and 20 boys. These players will participate in upcoming Gwalior Water Sports Champion,” he added.

When asked about the facilities available for water sports here, she said: “The facilities are better than the past and now we are trying our best to teach our players and prepare them. However, there is always room for improvement”

 The team of 40 players of water sports championship will be flag off to Gwalior on 27th of this month.
