Inspired by the famous television series ‘Game of Thrones’, a Srinagar based duo has started a cafe at the banks of Dal Lake here.

Named as ‘Winterfell Cafe’, the two young owners Kamran Nisar and Ummar Imtiyaz Matto in an exclusive chat with Kashmir Vision said that they are happy over the opening of their new business unit.
“It was my dream from childhood to open a cafe, but it was very difficult to find space, and start it that too in a place like Kashmir,” said 29-year-old Ummar.

“The cafe is decked with wood, leather, and iron throne. Everything is made beautifully and accurately. All the interior material has been carved minutely in the cafe. The woodwork in cafe is of pine, which makes it attractive to the visitors,” said 26-year-old Kamran.

Ummar and Kamran, both cousins, said that the idea of the cafe came from the poster of John Snow, which is a character in the TV series ‘Game of Thrones’.

“Winterfell is the seat of the ruler of the North and the traditional home of House Stark,” they said.
Kamran said a number of difficulties came in the way while developing this place. “It was not easy for us to open this café. Winterfell Café had to be opened on July 9, 2015 but it could not be opened due of financial problems,” he said.

“In the cafe everything is symmetric. We used our creativity in the interior design of the cafe. All the items used are quite expensive,” he said.

When asked about visitor’s response, they said: “People are cynical and they have to be. We are open to criticism and take everything positively, and we invite suggestions,” they said adding “Food is the main thing, and we are working very hard on it”

Kamran said, “Many renowned personalities of Kashmir have visited the Winterfell Cafe so far.”
“We arrange live sessions on Sunday’s that is proving to be a platform to many talented people,” he said.

Winterfell Café has a Facebook page and it has garnered 5,000 hits in just two months.
