DAY 6: Class work in Colleges remained suspended
The class work in Kashmir colleges remained suspended for the sixth day on Saturday while as all the Higher Secondary and other educational institutions functioned as per routine.
Meanwhile, reports of students staging protests were received from central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
Eyewitnesses said the students of Government Girls Higher Secondary School (HSS) Ganderbal staged a protest in solidarity with the Pulwama college students where over 50 students were injured police action.
They said students from Government Girls Higher Secondary School (HSS) Ganderbal assembled in the school premises and marched towards Beehama chowk.
“The protesting students were stopped by Police deployed in the area and were not allowed to march ahead. The protesting students refused and continued their protest march in the area,” they said.
Reports said some youth in the area however resorted to stone pelting on the police party deployed in the area, triggering clashes. “Police swung in to action and fired tear smoke shells in air,” reports said.
Meanwhile, eyewitnesses said a local shopkeeper Ghulam Nabi War sustained injuries in his head during the clashes and was shifted to hospital for treatment.
Interestingly, the divisional administration on Friday ordered suspension of class work in colleges on Saturday “as a precautionary measure” following the protests by students since Monday.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir also convened a meeting on Friday with all College and Higher Secondary School (HSS) Principals to review the ongoing situation and deliberated on reopening of colleges for academic activities.
