Two killed, four injured during scuffle over land dispute

Two persons were killed and four others injured in North Kashmir’s Uri on Wednesday after a man opened fire over a land dispute. The accused along with 20 others have been arrested by police.

The eye witnesses identified the accused as Mushtaq Sheikh, who fired indiscriminately, from his licensed 12-bore rifle, at a group of men who went to his house to resolve the land dispute. In the firing incident, six people were injured out of which two succumbed to their injuries.

Javaid Ahmad of Silikoot area of Uri died on the spot, while Jahangir Ahmad of Trikanjan died while he was been taken to the hospital, sources added.

The injured have been identified as Faisal Ahmad, Muhammad Afzal, Ilyas Ahmad and Ghulam Hassan Chalkoo. All injured were rushed to the Baramulla hospital and their condition is being reported to be stable by the doctors.

The witnesses quoted that both the deceased had no connection with the land dispute. Javaid Ahmad was walking on the road, while Jahangir Ahmad was a bystander when both got hit in the firing incident.

A police official said that they have registered an FIR and have begun investigation in the incident.
