Kupwara residents forced to drink polluted water
Residents of frontier district Kupwara Wednesday staged protest against failure of authorities to provide them the potable water. According to the people protesting, around 22000 souls in Kupwara town are served tap water from polluted River.
“We are forced to use the contaminated water from open sources due to shortage of potable water from last few weeks,” said Tariq Ahmad , resident of Kupwara.
Some other residents said that due to the incessant rains during past, the water in nullahs and ponds has become muddy and unsafe for human consumption.
“Now that alternative sources of water have been rendered unsafe due to the incessant rains, we are left with no source of potable water. The department concerned is testing our patience,” said Shabir Ahmad of Town Kupwara.
They added that the filtration plant at Bohipora is not working properly and is supplying unfiltered water to the people of the town.
While Talking to our Correspondent, Executive Engineer PHE division Kupwara, Nazir Ahmed Dar, said that many filtration plants are working, and supplying clean drinking water. He further said that “I will look up the matter very soon”.
