Attorney General of India, Mukul Rohatagi has defended the army action of using a civilian as a human shield in Kashmir’s Budgam district last week.
“Why is there is so much of “noise” over the video of a civilian tied to the front of an army jeep,” the AG said.
Speaking to a New Delhi based private news channel, Rohatagi defended the army for using the civilian as a shield during the by-polls on April 9 in Budgam area of the valley.
“The recent report about a stone pelter tied to an Army vehicle, it helped contain stone pelters and saved the poll officials. Why so much noise,” Rohatgi told the news channel.
He lauded the army’s effort in combating the terrorism in Kashmir.
“Everyday people are dying. It’s a surcharged atmosphere. The Army is dealing with terrorists not with protestors, so they will have to be dealt with…everyone should look at the Army with pride, they are doing a great job.”
The government’s chief legal advisor criticised the people who raised voice against the recent human rights violation in Kashmir.
“Sitting in AC rooms you can’t criticise army. Please put yourself in army position.” He said.
Pertinently, after a nationwide outrage, police filed an FIR against the army after a video of Farooq Ahmad Dar went viral on social media sites. Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti sought a detailed report on the incident.
According to the reports Farooq Ahmad Dar was visiting his ailing sister after casting his vote, when he was caught by the army at Chill Beerwah and tied to the front of the jeep. The video showed Dar tied to a jeep and a warning written on a paper attached to his chest against the stone pelters. A Hindi-speaker heard in the background says, “Stone throwers will meet a similar fate.”
Former Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah tweeted the video and in no time it went viral over the social media sites, forcing an internal investigation by the army. However, no initial report was presented by the army yet.
