Pulwama observes shutdown after forces beat youth
Life was thrown out of gear in Pulwama as people observed shutdown after a few dozen youth were injured in the action by forces on the students who hurled stones on the police personnel earlier during the day.
Shops and business establishments were closed while vehicular traffic was off the road following the incident. A police spokesperson said that the a normal naka was established around 200 meters away from degree college pulwama and as class work ended “some miscreants’’ started pelting stones at the naka party.
“To handle the stone pelting a reinforcement was rushed to the spot. The mob swelled as more students joined and pelted stones on the forces. In this incident some miscreants and police personnel were injured. One was referred to Srinagar hospital where his condition is stable,” said police.
However local residents said that students were injured after a joint party of police and CRPF came to arrest some students at government degree college, Pulwama. This lead to clashes between the police and students outside government Degree College as students objected to the entry of an armoured vehicle into the college last week. That incident had led to the closure of the college.
Reports said that, police party along with CRPF personnel came to arrest those youth who pelted stones on forces on Wednesday, when forces tried to park their army vehicle inside the college premises, triggering clashes. As the clashes ensued, the police and CRPF used teargas shells to disperse the youth, and in the scuffle some students were injured.
The District Police administration however clarified that no raids were conducted and video being shared on social networking groups is not from Pulwama.
