Dozens arrested in Pulwama, Anantnag in two days
Pulwama/Anantnag: At least three dozen youth were arrested by government forces in South Kashmir’s Pulwama and Anantnag district during the last two days.
Sources said that from past two, Jammu and Kashmir police have arrested at least thirty youth during nocturnal raids.
At least 16 youth were arrested post intense clashes that had erupted in Arihal area of Pulwama after a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was launched in the area on Sunday morning.
“The forces also conducted nocturnal raids in the area and arrested at least 14 youth,” a residents of Arihal informed this reporter, adding that facing resistance from locals during search operation, forces also damaged private property in the village.
Against the arrests and ransacking incident, a complete shutdown was observed in the area, locals said.
In a similar raid, three youth were arrested from Panzgam area of Pulwama district.
A police official also confirmed the arrests and said that most of arrested youth are involved in stone pelting while as the role of others is being investigated.
Three youth were also arrested in during nocturnal raid from Qazigund area of Anantnag district. The arrestees were identified as Iqbal Sheikh, Farooq Sheikh and Fayaz Ahmed Sheikh.
According to police sources, they too have been arrested for their involvement in stone pelting incidents.
