Sopore: Suspected militants on Friday evening killed a cop in Warpora area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Officials said that the suspected militants barged inside the house of policeman (follower) identified as Javid Ahmad Lone, son of Abdul Karim Lone at Warpora area of Sopore at around 10:30 pm on Friday and fired upon him.
They said that the cop sustained grievous injuries and was immediately shifted to the SDH Sopore where doctor declared him dead on arrival.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sopore, Javid Iqbal also confirmed the incident, saying that “the investigations in the case have been taken up.”
“Javid was fired upon by the militants at his home in Warpora. He was working as a follower in IRP 3rd Bn of police department at District Police Lines Sopore and was on leave,” SSP said.
Meanwhile, the forces cordoned off the area and launched a hunt to nab the suspected militants.
Hundreds of people participated in the last rites of a slain policeman at his native village Warpora Sopore on Saturday morning.
The dead body of the cop reached in his native village on Saturday morning from DPL Sopore where floral tributes were paid to him following which his body was handed over to his family members for last rites.
On this occasion, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) North Kashmir Range and all other senior police officers of the district were present.
According to police official, “Lone was also attacked by unknown gunmen in the year 2011 at his home at Logripora Bomai when he was residing there and got him seriously injured and since then he was suffering from kidney failures and after that he was continuously under treatment.”
“After this incident, Lone had been put on light duty deployed with C-Coy IRP 3rd Bn. The slain cop has left behind his wife, two small children and an old aged ailing mother,” police said.
In this regard, a case under FIR NO 282 /2018 under section 302/RPC, 7/27A Act was registered in police station Sopore and investigation taken up.
