Sopore: A complete shutdown was observed in Sopore subdivision of Baramulla district over the killing of a Hurriyat activist and two local militants recently.
The call for shutdown was given by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik.
Pertinently, Hurriyat activist Hakeem-ur-Rehman Sultani of Bomai was killed by unknown gunmen on September 8.
All shops, business establishments, petrol pumps remained closed in Sopore and Zaingeer area while public transport too was off the roads.
Authorities had meanwhile announced suspension of class work in all educational institutions of sub division Sopore on Friday as precautionary measures.
In addition additional troops and police was deployed across the town to thwart any protests.
