Class 10th, 12th exams likely to be deferred
BOSE to take decision by weekend
Srinagar: The school education department is likely to defer the annual class 10th and 12th exams to the third or last week of October.
The development comes at a time when the class 10th and 12th students are demanding deferment of exams to November owing to shutdowns and limited class work sessions.
Pertinently, the authorities in JK Board of School Education (BOSE) had issued tentative dates and decided to conduct annual exams for class 12 and 10th from first and second week of October. The decision was taken keeping in view the conduct of class 11th annual exams and private bi-annual exams as well.
Pertinently, Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK) G N Itoo has also written to secretary JKBOSE to postpone the class 10th and 12th exams to the first week of November.
“It has come to the notice of this directorate that the JKBOSE is intending to conduit annual examinations, 2018 for class10 and 12 from second week of October 2018. In this regard it is to inform that due to law and order problems in the valley, the syllabus is yet to be covered fully as per the requirement and most of the students have started feeling panicky,” reads the letter shot to secretary JKBOSE.
Itoo has stated that in the larger interest of students the examination for class 10th and 12th may be conducted from first and second week of November.
In the past, exams for class 12th were held in November while as for class 10th the exams were held in last week of October.
It may be recalled that the high and higher secondary schools remained closed for 32 days during the two months from March 05 to May 05 in wake of the student protests that erupted across the valley. The decision to close the educational institutions was taken by government as a precautionary measure to avoid law and order problems.
Director school education Kashmir (DSEK) G N Itoo said the BOSE may reconsider its decision and defer the exams at least up to third or last week of October. “I am hopeful that exams won’t be conducted before October 20,” he said.
Chairperson JKBOSE Veena Pandita said they have started to process the letter forwarded from director school education and a final decision on this issue will be taken within two days.
