Rafiabad Encounter: Slain LeT militants were heavily armed: Army
Sopore: Army on Friday said that the militants killed during the Raifiabad encounter were armed to the teeth.
Notably, army had claimed to have killed heavily armed five Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants, all foreigners in an encounter that broke out in the dense forest area of Rafiabad in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wednesday.
Commandant of 7 Sector Dharam Raj Rai said that “we had credible intelligence inputs about the presence of militants in forests and adjoining areas of Rafiabad on 05th of Aug.”
He said that on August 07 there was possibly an infiltration in the Lidder Panzal area as per credible sources following which they placed a number of interception groups to trap these militants.
Commander Dharam Raj Rai while addressing the media persons said that “in the wee hours on 8-Aug while carrying out the search of the area, a searching party was fired upon by hiding militants in the forests, ensuing a gunfight.”
He said that forces killed all five hiding heavily armed militants, however, one of the soldier was also injured earlier who was evacuated to hospital for treatment by helicopter.
He said after detailed search of the area four AK 47 rifles, one pistol and a large amount of war like sustenance were recovered from the killed militants.
