Beats a 4th grade student with a cricket bat

Srinagar: Police has registered an FIR against a government school teacher for beating a student with a cricket bat in the school premises.

A senior police official said an FIR stands registered against the teacher at Nehru Park Police station and the teacher was called for questioning as well.

“Yes we have registered an FIR against the teacher and he was questioned by the police as well,” the police official said.

A class 4th student, Sahil Ahmad was beaten by a teacher with cricket bat in Government Middle School Gagribal on Thursday for not participating in sports activities during the games period.

The doctors who treated the student at Bone and Joint hospital here have confirmed soft tissue injury in right arm of the student.

The student has been given plaster in his arm and has been advised complete rest, sources said.

Sahil’s games period started next after lunch but he couldn’t participate in sports activities because of some ailments.

“He has problem in eyes and can’t bear direct sunlight. He often sits inside during day time at home as well. But the school teacher did not understand his problem but resorted to severe punishment for not participating in sports activities,” said Mahraj-u-Din, father of the student.

Mahraj, who works in a private company as a class IV employee has enrolled all his three kids in the school. “But my kids always complain of ill treatment by student,” Mahraj said and regrets why he discharged his kids from a private school and enrolled them here at Gagribal.

He also accused that he was not allowed to enter the school to register his complaint against the teacher.

“If parents come with any grievance or complaints we are not allowed to meet school authorities. And if anyone gets a chance to meet the school headmaster he is asked to apply for discharge certificate of the student,” he alleged.

Mahraj said after getting cold response from school they approached police for registration of an FIR.

“The teacher was questioned but the concerned headmaster didn’t visit the police station and stayed away from even providing the school’s version about the incident,” he said.

The authorities in Zonal education Officer (ZEO) Nishat have not been informed about the incident so far.

“We don’t have any information about the incident. We did  not receive any information about the incident so far,” an official at ZEO office Nishat said.
