Militant killed in encounter in Kupwara
Srinagar: A militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in Kupwara district of north Kashmir on Thursday, the Army said.
“One militant has been killed in the ongoing encounter in the forest area of Kupwara district,” an Army official said.
Security forces had launched an operation in the Kandi forest area of Kupwara yesterday after a patrol of Army soldiers came under fire from militants, the official said.
He said a gun battle broke out between the two sides in which one soldier was critically injured. The jawan was evacuated to an Army hospital where he succumbed yesterday.
On Tuesday, an army commando of 3 PARA namely Sepoy Mukul Meena was killed while another soldier suffered injuries when a group of militants was surrounded by the search party of the army.
The operation was launched in the area on Tuesday late in the afternoon after army’s 47 RR and the group of militants had a stand-off, the army officer had said.
He had said that the militant group later managed to flee from the area, however, on Wednesday afternoon the group was again intercepted with the help of additional reinforcements of army’s 3 PARA commandos.
