Army kills youth in Kupwara
Srinagar: A 20-year-old youth was killed while another injured after army men fired at protestors in Trehgam area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Wednesday evening, witnesses said.
Locals of Trehgam said that army allegedly opened fire after some youth pelted stones at their vehicles which were passing through the area.
Two youth suffered injuries, one of them identified as Khalid Gafar (20) son of Abdul Gafar Malik suffered grave injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital, they said.
However, Khalid, a shopkeeper by profession succumbed later, they said.
Witnesses said that Khalid was shot in the neck and he died immediately after suffering huge blood loss.
A police officer confirmed the death and said that investigations will reveal as to how and under what circumstances the incident took place.
Soon after the news about the youth’s killing spread, massive protests erupted in Trehgam and adjoining areas which were going on when this report was filed. (with inputs from GNS)
