Shujaat Bukhari’s killing: Journalists hold silent march
Srinagar: Scores of journalists along with people associated with various media houses on Tuesday held a protest demonstration against former minister and BJP leader Lal Singh’s threat to Kashmir journalists while denouncing the killing of Shujaat Bukhari, senior journalist and Editor-in-Chief of Rising Kashmir.
The journalists assembled at Press Enclave here and marched towards Ghanta Ghar (Clock Tower) Lal Chowk and held a silent-sit-in for half an hour while the denouncing the gruesome assassination of Shujaat Bukhari.
Shujaat Bukhari was assassinated on June 14 by unidentified gunmen outside his office in Srinagar.
Notably, Lal Singh , a BJP MLA, had warned Kashmiri journalists to draw a line between reporting facts and supporting militants or face the fate of ‘Rising Kashmi’r editor Shujaat Bukhari.
“Kashmiri journalists have created an erroneous atmosphere and I would like to ask them to draw a line…You want to live like what happened to Basharat (Shujaat Bukhari)…Take care of yourselves and draw a line so that the brotherhood is not broken and it is maintained so that progress and development is ensured,” Singh told reporters in Jammu on Friday.
