Shopian: Residents of Ahgam village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday morning staged protest against the alleged highhandedness of forces.

Locals alleged that three youth who were on their way to orchards for work were caught up by Army men of a local 44 RR camp and were beaten to pulp without any provocation.

“As soon as news about the thrashing of youth spread in the area, locals assembled and started protesting against the act,” said an eyewitness.

The locals chanted anti-army slogans and demanded stern action against the troopers involved in the incident.

The trio thrashed by the Army men was identified as Mohammad Shafi lone, Abdul Majeed Ganie and Bilal Ahmad.

A senior police official said that they are investigating the matter.
