Militants attack police post in Pulwama

Cop shot at in Shopian

Srinagar: Militants on Wednesday lobbed a grenade on police post Lassipora in Pulwama district of south Kashmir.

SSP Pulwama Mohammad Aslam Choudhary said that suspected militants fired the UBGL grenade on the police post.

“The sentry of the post retaliated the fire. However, there was no immediate report of any causality,” SSP said.

The whole area was cordoned off and searches were launched to nab the attackers.

Pertinently, two policemen were killed and another critically injured after suspected militants attacked police post guarding the new court complex in Pulwama district on Tuesday.

The militants opened fire upon the police post resulting in on spot death of two security guards and injury to another at Takiya Wagam opposite to Government Degree College Pulwama near Barpora Kareemabad.

The militants after carrying out the deadly attack decamped with two service rifles from the slain cops, the spokesman added.

The deceased cops were identified as selection grade constables Ghulam Rasool and Ghulam Hassan.

Meanwhile, a police constable was injured critically after fired upon by militants at Katho Hallan area of Kellar in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday evening.

Official sources said that the gunmen fired upon the SPO, Rayees Ahmad Lone son of Ghulam Hassan near his home at Katho Hallan village this evening.

In the incident, Lone, suffered serious bullet wounds and was shifted to the nearby district hospital where from he was referred to Srinagar hospital in critical conditions,” they said.

Sources said that Lone was recently promoted from SPO to police constable and is presently posted at DPL Shopian.

SSP Shopian Shailendra Mishra also confirmed the incident.

“Lone was shot at by the militants after they barged inside their home. He was working as a constable,” SSP said.

Meanwhile, government forces cordoned off the area and launched a hunt to nab the assailants. (GNS)
