JRL working out on alternatives to shutdowns: Yasin Malik
Kashmir not an issue of economic doles or privileges: Mirwaiz
Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik on Thursday said that shutdowns are a compulsion to register protests and that they (JRL) are thinking for alternative ways to register protest.
Addressing a seminar, ‘Responsibility of Leadership in Safeguarding the Sanctity of Martyrdom’ organized by the Hurriyat(M) at its Rajbagh headquarters, Malik said, “Shutdown is our compulsion, but the Joint Resistance Leadership is working to find an alternative strategy to register a protest.”
The seminar organised by the APHC was held at the amalgam’s Rajbagh headquarters here in connection with the ongoing martyr’s week. Rich tributes were paid to Shaheed-e-Milat Mirwaiz Moulana Muhammad Farooq, Shaheed-e-Hurriyat Khwaja Abdul Gani Lone and martyrs of Hawal massacre of May 21, 1990.
In his presidential address, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said that Kashmir is not an issue of economic doles or privileges but a political and humanitarian issue and it is our consistent stand that this issue can be resolved either by implementation of UN Resolutions on Kashmir or through a sustained result oriented meaningful dialogue among India, Pakistan and the people of Kashmir.
He said that military might can’t muzzle the genuine aspirations of people of Kashmir.
Without directly referring to Ramadan ceasefire Mirwaiz said that no temporary initiative can prove fruitful unless steps are taken to address the basic dispute of Kashmir. He asked what next after this month? Will Government of India start killing people of Kashmir again?
Mirwaiz said that the people of Kashmir are engaged in a struggle based on the internationally accepted principal of Right to Self Determination and in order to crush this genuine struggle of the people the repressive measures used by the government of India are faced and fought with complete determination and unity by the people of Kashmir which he said, will bear fruit.
