Sopore: At least five youth were arrested after police conducted nocturnal raids in Zaingeer’s Harwan area of north Kashmir’s Sopore area, reports said.

Locals said that police raided many residential houses in Harwan area of Sopore during the night hours during the last two days and arrested five persons.

They identified the five arrested persons as Jehangir Ahmed Reshi son of Ghulam Rasool Reshi, Azad Ahmed Bhat son of Abdul Jabar Bhat, Nisar Ahmed Bhat son of Mohammad Sultan Bhat, Bashir Ahmed Najar son of Abdul Khazir Najar, Arshid Ahmed Dar son of Mohammad Maqbool Dar- all residents of Harwan Sopore.

The arrests have been made in connection with the civilian killing by the unknown gunmen earlier this month, sources said.

Notably, a 34 -year old man identified as Mohammad Ashraf Mir was shot dead while his wife Samia Begum was critically injured when unknown gunmen fired upon them at their residence at Mir Mohalla Harwan on 04 May.

Meanwhile, top police official in Sopore said that we have arrested them for questioning while adding that after proper investigation, they will be released if not found involved.
