Tangmarg: Hardu-Madam, the new tourist destination in Tangmarg area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, is facing pollution threat from locals.
People are throwing household waste, rotten fruits, vegetables and plastic waste, which is turning out to be an eyesore, locals alleged.
The famous water canal, Babal flows through village Hardu-Madam, which is first rest point for tourists, who are traveling towards Gulmarg, Drung and Babareshi, they said.
The locals speaking to ‘Kashmir Vision’ said that, the spot and canal is piled up with household waste, polythene, cowdung, rotten fruits, vegetables and plastic waste.
“The spot lack basic facilities such as dustbins. I have seen many locals, they are dumping plastic bottles, polythenes and food wastes around the premises of spot,” Peer Saqib, a local resident, said.
“There should be dustbins and warning boards should be installed for visitors asking them not to spill any wastes,” he said.
“Many adjacent villagers are throwing household wastes at the spot, nobody is questioning them for this act,”said Ishfaq ahmad Ganie, a local resident of Tangmarg.
Meanwhile, locals of the village appealed the Sub district Magistrate (SDM) and EO Municipality Tangmarg to arrange some dustbins at the location.
