Police arrests three drug peddlers in Baramulla

Srinagar: Police have arrested two drug peddlers in Baramulla and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesman said Saturday.

He said that a police party at a checkpoint established at Tapper near NHW intercepted two persons who tried to flee away from the spot but were apprehended tactfully. They have been identified as Mohammad Aqib Ganie son of Ghulam Mohammad Ganie resident of Takiya Tapper and Jahangir Ahmad Ganie son of Ghulam Ahmad Ganie resident of Rengi. During search, 3 Kgs of Cannabis Powder was recovered from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.

Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station and investigation has been initiated, he added.

Meanwhile, during patrolling at Baghat Butpora Sopore, a police team intercepted a suspicious person carrying a polythene bag. He was identified as Aijaz Ahmad Najar son of Ghulam Din Najar resident of Mumkak Butpora Sopore. During search, officers were able to recover 13 bottles of Codeine Phosphate (each containing 100 ml) from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody, the spokesman added.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 29/2024 under relevant sections of law have been registered at Police Station Sopore and investigation has been initiated, he said.
