CPR, First Aid Training programme for Commercial Drivers held
ANANTNAG : Motor Vehicle Department Anantnag, in collaboration with the SDRF Anantnag Tuesday organised a first aid and CPR training program for drivers and conductors of commercial vehicles and School drivers to enable them to act as first responders in case of any road accident.
As many as 200 drivers were imparted training on basic life support and rescue systems.
SDRF master trainers took the participants first through theory classes and then demonstrated practical sessions which among others included applying basic measures to clear victim’s airway and control bleeding, clearing any obstructions and draining any fluid from victims mouth, calling emergency services, performing first aid for the victim, safe handling and shifting techniques to avoid further injury to the victim till the emergency medical services reach.
Skills to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) through chest compressions, maintaining breathing, relieving choking at the accident site and dealing with different kinds of bleeding related training was also given on the occasion. The training also included a dummy for understanding the injuries on the human body and a practical test.
Speaking on the occasion, Assistant Regional Transport Officer Anantnag, Dr Mohammad Zubair Lattoo said that MVD will organise special camps in future also where the drivers attendants will be trained by SDRF and Health Department. All schools in the district have been instructed to submit the list of School drivers so that training could be given in phases.
Dr Zubair further said that untrained people are often frightened to touch casualties but early intervention can save lives or decrease the impact of injuries, leading to quicker recovery or lesser injuries for the victims.
The commercial vehicle drivers were trained with valuable skills that can definitely help them handle road crashes and in other accident situations.
At the conclusion of the programme, First Aid Boxes were also distributed among the trainees.
