Police arrests four drug peddlers

Srinagar: Police arrested four drug peddlers in Anantnag, Baramulla and Budgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesman said Thursday.

He said that based on a specific information, a police party from Police Post Sangam laid down a naka near Marhama crossing Sangam, intercepted a person identified as Abdul Hameed Khar son of Abdul Ahad Khar resident of Kharpora Nowpora Kulgam.

During search, about 6 Kgs of Poppy Straw was recovered from his possession. Similarly, police party from Police Post Sangam during naka checking at Naina Sangam apprehended one person identified as Javaid Ahmad Shoda son of Gh Nabi resident of Naina Batpora alongwith about 25 grams of Brown Sugar like substance. Both the persons have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody, the spokesman said.

Moreover, a police party at a checkpoint established at Red Bridge Uroosa intercepted a person. During search, 46 grams of Charas like substance was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Altaf Hussain Mughal son of Sharbat Hussain Mughal resident of Dardkote Uri. He has been arrested and shifted to PS Uri where he remains in custody.

In Budgam, Police received an information through reliable sources that one drug peddler resident of Rasoo Budgam have concealed/dumped Charas like substance in roof top of his residential house. Acting swiftly, a special police team reached the specific spot and recovered 1.2Kgs of charas like substance in powder form and 3 sticks of contraband substance wrapped in Corn cob leaves (weighing about 90 grams) from the said house. The accused person identified as Mohammad Rafiq Dar son of Sonaullah Dar resident of Rusoo Budgam was arrested on the spot and was shifted to police station where he remains in custody, the spokesman said.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigation have been initiated, he added.
