ANANTNAG: In a significant move to ensure public health and safety, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Anantnag, Gulzar Ahmad Bhat, who is also the Adjudicating Officer Thursday took strict action against 13 food business operators (FBOs) in the district for violating the provisions of Food Safety and Standards Act (FS&SA), 2006.

The Adjudicating Officer imposed a penalty of Rs. 3,17,500 on these operators in response to their contravention of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. During the trial, it was revealed that they had breached regulatory provisions, leading to their products being deemed of sub-standard and misbranded quality.

ADC after carefully considering complaints from the Food Safety Department and submissions made by the accused’s authorized counsels, concluded that the charges of contravention were well-founded.

He emphasized the importance of compliance with food safety regulations and standards and has urged all food business operators in Anantnag to strictly adhere to these guidelines to protect the well-being of consumers.

ADC also cautioned that regular inspections will continue in the district to maintain the highest standards of food safety and quality. Food business operators are encouraged to educate themselves about the Food Safety and Standards Act and to implement best practices in their establishments to avoid future fines and ensure public safety.
