Police registered 242 cases under NDPS Act
Arrests 425 drug peddlers in Baramulla during the current year
Srinagar: Police have registered 242 cases under NDPS act, arrested 425 drug peddlers which include 69 hard-core drug peddlers who have been booked under PIT NDPS PSA in Baramulla district. Moreover, property worth crores belonging to te arrested drug peddlers has been attached during the current year, a police spokesman said Wednesday.
He said that police also recovered contraband substances worth crores (value of contraband in black market). Further, properties of drug peddlers worth Rs 2.3 crores, comprising of 03 houses, 03 vehicles, and cash amounting to Rs.1.2 Crores has also been attached by the police.
Moreover, the concerted efforts of police have yielded a notable reduction in drug peddling cases. During the first half of the year, from January to June, there was an increase in cases, with numbers surging from 10 to 40 cases in April alone, the spokesman added.
However, in July, Police registered 18 cases related to drug peddling, signalling the beginning of a positive shift in the fight against this menace. This trend continued through the subsequent months, with 15 cases recorded in August and 18 cases in September, demonstrating the consistent efforts to combat drug-related crimes.
The remarkable dedication of the Police is further exemplified by the 11 cases registered in October, underscoring their continued vigilance and commitment to maintaining law and order in the region, the spokesman added.
