Police books four notorious drug smugglers under PIT NDPS Act
Four peddlers arrested in Kulgam, Baramulla
Srinagar: Acting tough against drug peddlers and to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police booked four most wanted and notorious drug smugglers under PIT NDPS Act in Baramulla and lodged them in Central Jail Kot-balwal Jammu, a police spokesman said Friday.
He said that the four most wanted and notorious drug smugglers identified as Muzamil Majeed Bhat @ Hashim resident of Mohalla Mir Sahib Old Town, Showkat Ahmad Sheikh resident of Umerabad Srinagar, Hayat Ahmad Bhat resident of Kawoosa Budgam and Bashir Ahmad Sheikh resident of Palpora Pattan have been booked under PIT-NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent Authority. The booked drug smugglers have been detained and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-balwal Jammu.
Pertinently, many cases are registered against these drug smugglers and were involved in promoting drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth of Mohura Heewan, Bandipayeen Chandoosa, Khambiyar Pattan and other areas of District Baramulla. Despite their involvement in many FIR’s they did not mend their activities and were again involved in promoting drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth.
Meanwhile, police arrested four drug peddlers in Kulgam and Baramulla and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In Kulgam, a police party during patrolling at Dalwach, Qazigund intercepted two suspicious persons carrying luggage bags who after noticing police party tried to flee from the spot but were tactfully apprehended by alert police party. During checking, officers were able to recover 19Kgs of poppy straw like contraband substance in the Luggage bags. They have been identified as Balwinder Singh son of Dailaish Kumar resident of Shairiwala Ludhiana, Punjab and Harvinder Singh son of Joginder Singh resident of Walipor Khurad Ludhiana, Punjab. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
In Baramulla, a police party at a checkpoint established at Boniyar Baramulla intercepted two persons identified as Sajad Hussain Qureshi (Policeman) son of Nazir Ahmad Qureshi resident of Bandi Uri and Nadeem Ahmad Awan son of Mohammad Hussain resident of Gingal Uri. During search, 48 grams of contraband substance Heroin was recovered from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigation has been taken up, the spokesman added.
