Drug peddler arrested in Kulgam

Srinagar: Police booked a notorious drug smuggler under PIT NDPS Act in Baramulla. Besides, a drug peddler was arrested by Police in Kulgam, a police spokesman said Monday.

He said that a notorious drug peddler identified as Barkat Ali Mian @Raja son of Mohammad Maqbool Mian resident of Mian Mohalla Pattan has been booked under PIT-NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority. The booked drug smuggler has been detained and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-Balwal Jammu.

Pertinently, many cases were registered against the said smuggler as he was involved in promoting drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth of Pattan and other areas of District Baramulla.

Despite his involvement in many FIRs he did not mend his ways and was again involved in promoting drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth, the spokesman added.

Meanwhile, in Kulgam, a police party at a checkpoint established near Khudwani Bypass, arrested a drug peddler identified as Ghulam Hassan Dar son of Mohammad Ismail Dar resident of Turka Tachloo. During search, officers were able to recover 09 Kgs of Poppy Straw and 11 bottles of Codeine Phosphate, concealed in a polythene bag from his possession. He has been shifted to police station where he remains in custody, the spokesman said.

Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law was registered and investigation was initiated, he added.
