Mudslide hits vehicles on Jmu-Sgr highway near Banihal, two injured

Srinagar: A truck carrying poultry chicken came under a massive landslide along Jammu-Srinagar highway on Thursday afternoon leaving two occupants injured, officials said.

They said that a truck laden with poultry chicken truck on the way from Jammu towards Srinagar came under a massive landslide at Shabanbas area.

“Soon after the incident, a rescue operation was launched at the site by a police team alongside NGO ‘Banihal Volunteers’, during which the two people travelling in the vehicle  were rescued in injured conditions”, they said adding, both the persons were taken to SDH Banihal for immediate treatment.

“Given the accumulation of landslide debris, the thoroughfare has been suspended for any vehicular movement till any further directions from the authorities”, they further said. After nigh long halt traffic restored on Jmu-Sgr highway

Earlier, traffic movement on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway resumed on Thursday morning after remaining suspended during night due to landslides triggered by rains in Ramban district.

An official said that traffic movement was stopped from both sides of the highway last night after landslides blocked the road near Shalgari, Banihal.

Around 300 vehicles remained stranded on the highway during the night halt,” he said.

He said traffic has been restored now and stranded vehicle are being cleared on priority.

The official advised vehicle operators and people to travel with caution on the highway.
