Dear Sir,

Covid cases are on the rise once more, but public health centres in Karnataka have no vaccine stocks to offer booster shots to the vulnerable because the Centre has turned down the state’s request for new doses.

Private hospitals are not faring any better, as they have stopped procuring doses, citing potential losses due to low uptake. While there were only two Covid death in the state in January, the number increased to fifteen in March and is now one per day in April as per reports.

Karnataka will have to obtain vaccines directly from manufacturers since the health ministry stated that it would no longer supply the doses. A booster shot is very much essential for people who have chronic lung or heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, obesity or are on medication.

Therefore, the centre has to supply the doses otherwise days are not far away where the death toll due to covid-19 will rise in the state.
