Police seizes illicit timber in Budgam, seven held

Srinagar: Police in Budgam seized illicit timber and arrested seven accused persons involved in the commission of crime, a police spokesman said Tuesday.

He said that police received information that some timber smugglers are transporting illicit timber in a vehicle bearing registration number JK04H-2155.

Accordingly, a checkpoint was established at Bonhama crossing and the vehicle was intercepted. During search, 16 logs of illicit timber (deodar) were recovered and 7 persons on board including the driver of the vehicle were arrested on spot. They have been shifted to PS where they remain in custody. Besides, vehicle used for commission of crime has been seized, the spokesman added.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 18/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Beerwah and investigation has been initiated, he said.
