Urges local community to play their role in Swachh Gram campaign

GANDERBAL: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Shyambir Saturday appealed to the local community to play an active role vis-à-vis making their villages garbage free.

The DC made this appeal during his visit to inspect the sanitation measures being implemented in block Sherpathri.

On the occasion, the DC interacted with the local community including shopkeepers and briefed them about the sanitation plan and initiatives taken by the District Administration for sanitation management in the district.

While interacting with them, the DC said that cleanliness is the prime responsibility of all and everyone needs to change behavior with respect to cleanliness so that the purpose of Swachh Gram campaign is achieved at ground level. He urged locals to use dustbins for garbage so that the same can be lifted and dumped on identified locations after proper segregation.

He also directed the Sanitation committees that announcements shall be made about the vehicle timing for garbage lifting besides proper plan shall be chalked out for lifting of garbage dumped on roadsides and cleaning of irrigation canals involving Mohalla and Masjid committees.

He exhorted the locals to refrain from littering on roads and water bodies adding that fines will be imposed on identified persons who throw garbage on roadside and canals.
