Five drug peddlers arrested, contraband substances recovered: Police

Srinagar: Police have arrested five drug peddlers in Sopore and Shopian areas and have recovered contraband and psychotropic substances from their possession, a police spokesman said on Monday.

The spokesman said that a police party headed by SHO Police Station Sopore intercepted a vehicle (Santro) bearing registration number JK05E-0669 with two persons on board, at a checkpoint established at Seer Crossing

The police have identified them as Iqrar-ul-Islam resident of Amargarh and Owais Mushtaq Hakeem resident of Sopore.

“During checking, 216 Spasmoproxyvon Plus capsules were recovered from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to a police station where they remain in custody,” the spokesman said.

“The vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized,” he said.

Meanwhile in Shopian, a police party of Police Station Shopian arrested three drug peddlers during routine patrolling at old Sumo Stand Shopian.

They have been identified as Abdul Hameed Sheikh son of Ghulam Ahmad Sheikh resident of Batapora Shopian, Sameer Ahmad Tak son of Mohammad Ashraf Tak resident of Arm Mohalla Shopian and Fahid Altaf Sheikh son of Mohammad Altaf Sheikh resident of Teng Mohalla Shopian who were covertly selling contraband substances among the youth of district Shopian.

“During checking, officers were able to recover 1.5Kgs of Bhang powder, 110grams of Charas powder, 30grams of Charas and six grams Heroin and cash worth Rs 7500 from their possession,” he said.

He said the accused were shifted to a police station where they remain in custody.

“Cases under relevant sections of law stand registered at respective police stations and investigation has been taken up,” the spokesman said.
