Dear Sir,

Indian rhinoceros are getting poached in large numbers in the country by poachers and it is getting increased every year, even though there are no incidents of rhino poaching in states like Assam and West Bengal found last year but there still poaching exists in other states according to reports.

Indian rhinos are poached for their horn which is used in traditional medicine to cure a range of ailments, from fever, tumors, cancer to hangovers, and also as an aphrodisiac.Mainly rhinos with are single black horn that can grow up to 70 cm, and a tough, grey-brown hide with skin folds which are seldom seen around the globe are getting poached in the country.

According to World Wildlife Federation there are around 3,500 Indian rhinos in the wild today. These numbers are reducing swiftly due to poaching.

Therefore special rhino protection force has to be constituted by each and every state government to keep a check and put an end to rhino poaching and related activities especially at National Parks and Reservoirs across the country.
