Anantnag: The historical Dara Shikoh Mughal Garden in the heart of Bijbehara town in Anantnag district is in a dilapidated condition as it remained out of focus of the government.

The garden has become a victim of official apathy and craves for government attention.

The locals said that no attention was being given for the maintenance of this historical Garden for the last many years due to which it has lost its glory.

“Till 2019, it was being maintained by J&K Bank but the park is in ruins since it was taken over by the floriculture department. The condition of the park has turned from bad to worse,” the locals said.

They said that flood channels along fountains in the park are turning dry due to which it is losing its glory and people visiting there return back within minutes.

Mudasir Ahmad, a local resident, said that the historical garden is lying in dilapidated condition due to which the flow of people visiting the park has decreased.

He said that authorities have been taking the entry fee but nobody knows where the money goes and why money isn’t being spent on the park.

Shakeel Ahmad, another local resident said that the government has sanctioned money several times for the restoration of the garden but on ground, nothing has changed.

“If the government spends money on the garden it will again attract the tourists here,” the locals said.

Locals demanded that the government should investigate the matter so that funds are utilised at ground level.
