Six drug peddlers arrested across Kashmir: Police

Srinagar: Police have arrested six drug peddlers in Pulwama and Baramulla district and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesman said on Monday.

He said a Police party from Police Station Pulwama intercepted a suspicious person at a checkpoint established at Peaks Auto Gangoo Pulwama.

“The suspected person tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully,” the spokesman said

“During checking, 1.5kg of bang patri was recovered from his possession,” he said.

The Police have identified the accused as Inayat Javid son of Javaid Ah Ganie resident of Chatapora and has been shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

Meanwhile, in another case, a Police Party from Police Station Pulwama received information about hoarding large quantities of contraband substances by one person at his residential house at Gosoo Pulwama.

The suspected person was identified as Shakeel Ahmad Wani son of Gulam Ahmad Wani.

“On receipt of this information, a Police party raided the specific location at village Gusoo Pulwama in presence of Magistrate,” the spokesman said, adding that 800gms of Charas Powder was recovered from the house during the search.

“The accused was arrested and was shifted to the police station where he remains in custody,” he said.

In Baramulla, a police party during routine naka checking at Sumbal-Singhpora road near Odina signalled a vehicle (i-10) bearing registration number UP65BE-9224 with four persons onboard to stop.

“During search of the vehicle, 3kgs of Poppy Straw, 700grams of Charas powder and 12grams of Heroin like substance was recovered from the said vehicle,” the spokesman said.

He said the arrested four drug peddlers were identified as Mohammad Maqbool Bhat @Raja son of Ghulam Mustafa, Zulfikar Ali Parray son of Mohammad Akbar and Sher Ali Parray son of Ghulam Mohammad all residents of Gund Hassi Bhat, Srinagar and Parvaiz Ahmad Najar son of Ghulam Hassan Najar resident of Trihgam Sumbal.

“They have been shifted to the police station where they remain in custody. The vehicle used in the commission of crime was seized,” he said.

He said the cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and investigation has been initiated.
