Police arrests two drug peddlers in Budgam

Srinagar: Police have arrested two drug peddlers from Budgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesman said on Saturday.

He said a Police party of Police Station Chadoora intercepted a vehicle (Santro) bearing registration number JK04A-8236 with two persons on broad, at a checkpoint established at Tagnar Chadoora.

“During the search, 176.200 kgs of Poppy Straw concealed in five nylon bags were recovered from their possession,” the spokesman said.

The police have identified the accused as Showkat Ahmad Yatoo @Shola son of Abdul Aziz Yatoo resident of Hayatpora Chadoora and Farooq Ahmad Sheikh @Jana son of Abdul Majeed Sheikh resident of Tangnar Chadoora.

“They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Vehicle used for the commission of the crime has also been seized,” the spokesman said.

“A case vide FIR number 209/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Chadoora and investigation has been initiated,” he said.

Notably, during the year 2022, Police arrested 122 drug peddlers and seized 18 vehicles in drug-dealing cases in district Budgam, the police spokesman said.
