Pulwama: The residents of the Chewa Ullar Village in Tral hamlet of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district are up in arms against PHE department for its failure to provide potable water to the area.

The residents said a water supply scheme was sanctioned for a decade for the area and the work on it was completed as well.

“But we fail to understand why is not being made functional,” a local resident said.

The locals said they are forced to drink contaminated water in absence of a potable water facility which has every apprehension of breakout if water borne diseases  in the area.

“Our children and elderly people often fall sick and the reason behind it is the contaminated water that they are using,” they said.

The locals said a decade has passed since the water supply scheme was started in the area and 99 percent of it is complete but due to some issues with the land donor, it has not been functional till date.

“Government claims that every household is connected with the Jal Jeevan mission but our area has been waiting for a decade and our dreams are yet to come true,” said another local.

The residents said they brought the issue in notice of concerned authorities several times but to avail.

They urged the higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest and make the water supply scheme functional.
