Several candidates shortlisted for jobs during Rozgar Mela at Shopian

SHOPIAN: The District Employment and Counselling Centre (DE&CC) Shopian on Tuesday organised a Job Fair for ITI trained pass-outs at its Campus.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Sachin Kumar Vaishya inaugurated the Mela.

Several companies participated in the said mela to hire the ITI trained pass-outs/ final year students.

DC lauded the efforts of the DE&CC for conducting the job fair. He advised for conducting such fairs regularly for trained pass outs.

He desired that more robust tie-ups between the academic institutions and industrial houses should be established so that the skilled candidates get jobs as per their acquired skills.

Vaihya emphasised the students to concentrate on their studies wholeheartedly and refrain from drugs. He said that every technical institution should have a placement cell that would assist the skilled youth to fetch jobs.

Speaking on the occasion, Joint Director Employment Kashmir Division, Hakeem Tanveer said that more Job Melas need to be conducted to tap the potential of skilled and trained youth.

He emphasised upon institutions to upgrade their courses and curriculum as per the current market needs.

He also asked the students to acquire the skills efficiently so that they are hired on respectable terms by the companies. He said that skills are the most sought after traits among the trained professionals.

Assistant Director, Employment, Hafsa Qayoom  emphasized upon the online registration of unemployed youth on the department’s portal & integration of Employment portal with National Career Services so that they could get real time information in future regarding employment avenues.

The companies that participated in the placement fair included Industries Bank Shopian, Kashmir Valley Mother’s, Shadab Hospital, Friday Mother’s, Axis Bank Shopian, Peaks Automobiles, LIC, KY Hospital and First Choice.

More than 300 candidates participated in the Job fair. Around 90 candidates were shortlisted by these companies and 110 candidates have been registered on the employment portal on spot. The selected candidates will be called by the employers soon for joining the service.
