Jammu: Ghulam Nabi Azad on Thursday expelled three top leaders – former ministers Tara Chand and Manohar Lal and former legislator Balwan Singh – from his Democratic Azad Party (DAP) for anti-party activities.

An order for their expulsion with immediate effect was issued by DAP general secretary R S Chib.

“They were expelled for anti-party activities. The chairman (Azad) was convinced that they were not required in party as they were involved in anti-party activities,” Chib told PTI.

DAP chairman Azad has made several appointments in the party over the past two days nearly three months after its launch in Jammu.

Meanwhile, the former deputy chief minister Tara Chand said that he is returning to Congress as “Ghulam Nabi Azad-led Democratic Azad Party is only dividing the secular vote.”

Tara Chand, who was deputy CM during NC- Congress regime, said that he is likely to rejoin Congress.“I will rejoin the party. I am Congressman by birth, “he said, adding that he is holding consultation with his workers.

He said they were expelled from the group at the time when they were thinking of rejoining the party.

“Most of the people would leave the party. Where is the party? It is almost non-existent and only a few people are calling shots in it,” he said,

He said that Ghulam Nabi Azad-led DAP is only dividing the secular vote. (with inputs from PTI, KNO)
