FCS&CA recovers Rs.15100 fine from 14 erring shopkeepers in Sgr

SRINAGAR: A team of Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) on Monday recovered Rs.15100 fine from 14 erring shopkeepers for violation of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955.

The fine was imposed during a drive held in several city areas.

Besides, two mutton shops were also sealed and a complaint against two vegetable sellers was lodged in concerned Police stations on the occasion.

The action against the erring was taken following complaints from various corners regarding overcharging on essential commodities.

“During the course of action in district Srinagar, 71 business establishments were inspected,” the spokesman said.

“During the current financial year Rs. 74.50 lakhs have been collected as fine from 15973 erring traders. Besides, 201 establishments have been sealed and police complaints against 14 erring traders also stand lodged,” he said.

The department has reprimanded the erring shopkeepers to remain careful in future.

“The drive will continue in the same passion in future as well & whosoever found violating the norms will be brought to justice,” the spokesman said, adding that, people can register their complaints on toll free number 18001807011.
