ADC Bandipora visits Bankoot, Athwatoo areas

Takes stock of facilities, addresses various issues

Bandipora: Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Bandipora Waseem Raja on Friday visited the remote villages of Athwatoo and Bankoot to take stock of facilities available and to address basic issues confronting the area.

He was accompanied by Divisional Forest Officer Bandipora, AEE PMGSY, JE PHE division Bandipora, JE R&B, Sr. Executive Manager of Mini Hydro Power Project, besides officials from other departments.

DDC member, Local PRIs present on the occasion appraised the ADC about the issues of the area including road connectivity, drinking water and other essentials.

The officials of Jal Shakti Department apprised the ADC that work on the water supply scheme Tangath is in progress and subject to fair weather condition, the work on the project will be completed within next few months.

The issue of road connectivity from Athwatoo to Herpora was taken onspot by Additional Deputy Commissioner Bandipora with the officers of R&B and PMGSY and directions were given to the concerned departments to prepare a joint feasibility report regarding road connectivity to the area. The officials of the department were asked to submit a report within a week’s time positively.

PMGSY was also directed to provide feasibility report with respect to the demand of construction of culvert over the penstocks of Mini Hydro Electric Power Project. Besides, a general direction was conveyed to all works departments to expedite the progress on works given the limited working season.

The ADC gave on spot directions to the concerned officers to address the basic issues of the inhabitants residing in the area.

The locals appreciated the district administration for macdamization of the road connecting Bandipora with Bonakoot and Athwatoo.

The ADC also assured the locals that the administration will make all efforts to promote the area as an offbeat tourist destination given its huge tourism potential.

The locals of the area including the PRIs appreciated the efforts of the district administration and hoped that the visit of ADC will help in resolving their livelihood issues.
