Bla admin holds training programme on DM, Preparedness & Mitigation

BARAMULLA: The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Baramulla on Friday conducted a day-long awareness cum training programme on disaster management, preparedness and mitigation at Dak Bungalow, here.

The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar presided over the function and called for a robust incident response system (RIRS) to combat disasters to mitigate loss of life and property during any disasters.

Dr Sehrish further sensitised participants about the dangerous effects of encroachments on streams, lakes and other water bodies and deforestation and appealed all to play their role voluntarily for quick response towards mitigation during disasters.

On the occasion, Ex Senior Consultant NDMA, Major General (Rtd) Dr V K Naik deliberated upon the role of each department in disaster management and mitigation efforts, role of Incident Response System at district level.

He said that the quality disaster response should be comprehensive, effective, swift and well planned; besides, it should be based on a well-conceived response mechanism.

Meanwhile, the DC also highlighted the role of district administration and preparedness at district level for prompt response towards disasters.

She further informed that under Centrally Sponsored Scheme ‘Aapda Mitra’, District Administration reserves 70 community volunteers (CVs) who have been properly trained for tackling the disasters.

The DC urged officials to ensure they make best use of the training programme and apply the same in case any disaster happens and become saviors of life with all these skills and training given in such workshops.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Dr Zahoor Ahmad Raina, Assistant Commissioner Development Yar Ali Khan, besides officers from police and line departments were present on the occasion.
