Bhupinder Kumar e-inaugurates Lab automation at GMC Sgr, associated SMHS hospital

SRINAGAR: The administrative secretary Health and Medical Education (H&ME) department, Bhupinder Kumar on Saturday e-inaugurated full laboratory automation in Biochemistry Diagnostic Laboratory (BDL) of Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar and associated, SMHS hospital.

The e-inauguration was held during an event organised by the Department of Biochemistry of GMC Srinagar.

Prof (Dr) Samia Rashid, Principal GMC Srinagar was also present on the occasion.

In his inaugural speech, the administrative secretary said the introduction of latest technological advances including IT to augment patient care is a thrust area.

Prof (Dr) Sabhiya Majid, Head department of Biochemistry informed the gathering that the Biochemistry Diagnostic Laboratory SMHS Hospital (NABL accredited) will be a fully automated laboratory in India.

“Full laboratory automation is the need of the hour for these Biochemistry Diagnostic Laboratories of GMC Srinagar and its associated SMHS Hospital that process around a thousand samples round the clock,” an official said.

He said the Diagnostic laboratory is the central element in entire patient care and contributes to 70 percent of all the clinical decisions.

This hospital will be a pioneer in introducing ‘Intelligent Car Technology’ with a Smart Software Infrastructure to route the samples right from receipt of sample at phlebotomy stage to release of result stage, said the official adding that this will enable the lab to reduce turnaround time, improve accuracy  and enhance operational productivity for better patient care.

For this purpose the Biochemistry department has collaborated with Abbott Laboratories to bring the latest state of the art Lab Automation technology in India.

The Abbott GLP Lab Automation System has transformed many laboratories across the globe as centres of excellence.
