Soldier injured in Baramulla encounter, succumbs
One LeT terrorist captured alive, another killed in separate encounter at Kulgam: Police
Baramulla/Kulgam: An army soldier who was injured in an encounter in Baramulla district yesterday, succumbed to his injuries at Srinagar hospital on Thursday, officials said.
They said that the army man from 52 Rashtriya Rifles had received bullet injuries during an encounter in Wanseeran Taripora yesterday.
He said that the injured soldier was evacuated to a hospital in Srinagar, where he succumbed to injuries today.
Meanwhile, northern army commander Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi and all ranks of northern command paid their tributes to the slain soldier.
“Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi, Army CdrNC and all ranks of Northern Comd convey heartfelt condolences on the sad demise of Rifleman Kulbushan Manta who succumbed to his injuries while fighting terrorists at Baramulla on 27 October 22. May his soul rest in peace,” Norther Army Command tweeted.
Meanwhile, police said that a LeT terrorist has been arrested during the encounter.
A police spokesman in a statement issued here said that acting on specific information regarding presence of terrorists in Wanseeran Taripora jungle area of PS Sheeri, District Baramulla, joint teams of Police, Army 52 RR, 46 RR and 53 Bn CRPF launched cordon and search operation in the area.
During search the terrorist taking refuge in the said area fired upon the search party, which was retaliated triggering off an encounter, police said, adding that in the ensuing encounter, one jawan of 52 RR got injured and was evacuated for medical treatment, who later on attained martyrdom.
“One terrorist of LeT identified as Nisar Ahmad Bhat S/O Mohammad Akbar Bhat R/O Shrakwara Kreeri, District Baramulla was apprehended alive.” police said, adding that another militant of LeT, Usman of Pakistan, who is wanted in various cases, is being pursued.
One modified AKS 74u, one magazine, 28 rounds among other incriminating materials have been recovered from the apprehended terrorist, the statement said.
In this regard, police said that a case under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Sheeri and investigation taken up.
Meanwhile, in another encounter at south Kashmir’s Kulgam area an unidentified terrorist was killed, police said.
An encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in the Asthan Marg area of Kulgam in which one terrorist was killed, a police official said.
He said the identity and group affiliation of the slain ultra is being ascertained.
The search operation in the area is still in progress, the official added.
