DDC Chairman Anantnag convenes FRA review meeting

ANANTNAG: The Chairman District Development Council (DDC) Anantnag M Y Gorsi on Tuesday convened a meeting to review the implementation of Forest Rights Act (FRA) 2006 at Dak Bungalow, here.

During the meeting, the chair was appraised of the cases sanctioned under FRA in the district.

The cases which are pending at Block and Sub Divisional level were also discussed during the meeting. Various stakeholders put forth their observations in implementation.

The DDC Chairperson said that Schedule Tribes and other forest dwelling tribes have remained deprived of their rights and every step must be taken to ensure that the process is hassle free and efficient and there is no delay in granting rights where they are due.

He said that the lackadaisical attitude causing delays in implementation will be highlighted and concerned officials will be held accountable.

ACR Anantnag said that the verification of cases must be completed on specific days in a week so that all stakeholders are present and cases are decided swiftly.

He said that the act grants rights to genuine beneficiaries and the field level teams have to ensure proper verification to ascertain validity of the claims.
