Two drug peddlers arrested, contraband substance recovered: Police

Srinagar: Police have arrested two drug peddlers in Budgam and Bandipora district and recovered contraband substances from their possession as well, a police spokesperson said on Saturday.

He said a police party from police post Narbal Magam signalled a vehicle (Load carrier Auto) bearing registration number JK01L-8141 to stop during night patrolling near village Yarigund.

“The driver tried to flee after noticing the Police Party but the vehicle was intercepted,” he said.

The spokesman said that 21Kgs of cannabis leaves like substance was recovered from the load carrier during the search by police officials.

The accused driver has been identified as Tasaduq Ahmad Ganie son of Mohammad Subhan Ganie resident of Yarigund.

“He has been arrested and shifted to a police station where he remains in custody. The Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized,” he said.

A case, vide FIR No. 157/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Magam and further investigation has been initiated, he said.

Meanwhile, a police party in Bandipora laid a special checkpoint at Darmahama after it received information about the movement of drug peddlers in Braripora Bankote area.

The drug peddler has been identified as Reyaz Ahmad Lone son of Ali Mohammad Lone, resident of Braripora Bankote.

“During search, officers were able to recovered Charas like substance concealed in a polythene bag from his possession. He has been shifted to police station where he remains in custody,” he said.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No.45/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Pethkote and investigation has been initiated.
