Notorious gang busted in Srinagar: Police

Says five persons arrested, stolen items recovered

Srinagar: Police on Thursday said that it has busted a gang of mobile and Car thieves in Central Kashmir’s Srinagar district.

In a handout issued here, police said that a written complaint was recieved by Police Post Banmohalla from one Owais Amin Najar son of Mohammad Amin Najar resident of Shahwari Srinagar regarding theft of his vehicle.

The police spokesman further stated that upon this a Case FIR No. 50/ 2022 U/S 379 IPC was registered in Police Station MR GUNJ pertaining to the theft of one vehicle bearing registration No. JK05B 2105.

During the investigation of the instant case and technical assistance recieved from North police lab, 05 suspects were picked up for questioning by PP Banmohlla, he said.

During sustained questioning alongwith SHO MR GUNJ, they disclosed their involvement in the said case and many other theft cases, he said.

Following 5 were arrested namely Arsalan Mushtaq Wandroo son of  Late Mushtaq Ahmad resident of Puj Mohallah Rinawari, Momin Bilal Bhat S/o Bilal Ahmad Bhat R/o Khaniyar, Mehran Shafi Bhat son of Mohammad Shafi Bhat resident of Mir Masjid Khaniyar, Rameez Showkat Matoo son of Showkat Ahmad Matoo resident of Hazari bazar Rainawari and Nadeem Ahmad Sheikh son of Manzoor Ahmad Sheikh resident of Sheikh Colony hawal Nowhatta, he said.

During interrogation following stolen items were recovered from their possession one Motorcycle (Discovery) DL6SAR/ 4913 colour black, two Mobile phones ( VIVO) , Two Mobile phones  (REDMI ), One Mobile Phone  (MI ), Two Mobile phones  (OPPO), One Mobile phone (GIONEE), One Mobile phone  (SAMSUNG), One Mobile phone, One Mobile phone (JIO), One Wrist Watch  (TITAN ), One Gas Cylinder (HP ), he said.

Accordingly the above said stolen items were seized U/S 102 CrPC. Moreover the above said vehicle Maruti Car numbered JK05B  2105 also stands recovered from the said persons, he said.

The investigation of the instant case is going on and more recoveries are expected, reads the statement.
