BANDIPORA: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Bandipora on Monday organised a day long awareness programme on mental health at Government Girls High School Sumbal to celebrate World Mental Health day.

The programme was organised in collaboration with Tehsil Legal Services Committee Sumbal and education department Bandipora.

On the occasion panel lawyer and advocate Tasleem Jan and Advocate Gazalla Amin while addressing the gathering said that the day is celebrated to promote awareness of global mental health and to seek human attention towards Mental Health so that it is treated at par with physical health.

The speakers emphasized that mental health problems exist in our lives, families, workplaces and communities, impacting everyone and said the people must take all measures to prevent mental ill-health – as individuals and as a society.

During the session, the speakers actively interacted with the students about the unfortunate taboo against discussing issues of mental health in our society and about the labels attached to those who are suffering from mental illnesses.

They encouraged the students to think of new ideas which can help make a change in the present scenario and promote awareness and sensitivity towards the important issue of mental health.
